This is about my very VERY...BRAVE 15 year old son, MICHAEL KALISZ and his battle with melanoma skin cancer and losing his dad, his best friend during his battle. Michael's dad passed away, on Friday April 20th 2012 he passed in Michael's bedroom of a massive heart attack and it was Michael that found his dad's lifeless body. Through everything Michael has been though since November 22, 2011 this, my VERY brave teen my hero has maintained his grades and been on the Honor Roll all school year., He amazed all his teacher with keeping his grades up, with all Michael has gone though and all the school he missed due to his cancer and the 12 procedures to date and his dad's passing.
Michael's dad was the sole provider for our family. Michael's dad and I had no insurance when we got the news about Michael in November 2011 we did what we had to to make sure Michael got the treatment he so needed. We stopped paying our house payment, stopped paying on our term life policies, we cashed in Michael's pre-paid Florida College Fund, we sold off both our wedding rings and anything we had of valve for our Michael. We let all our bills go into default. In early 2012 Michael got insurance but it didn’t pay for the plastic reconstruction Michael needed even with the Dr.s trying to help us get it covered, the insurance company wouldn’t cover it. Michael's dad worked 14/16 hour days 5 days a week and 6 & 7 days when the work was there, to make what we needed for our son needs. Michael's battle is not over, I am in need of your help, to help me cover Michael's uncovered medical and expenses related to Michael's day to day care. Please let me start by saying a huge THANK YOU for everly one who has sent gifts and manymuch needed Prayers for Michael. Michael is home recovering and doing good, thank you to all who contacted me via email with your messages and Prayers. They all mean so much to both Michael. With travel expenses, doctors appointments and surgeries have us using up every cent and then some. Please were still very much in need. Michael goes for a postop check-up this coming Monday I'll keep you updated. I want to say Thank You once again for everyone who has sent Prayers, gifts to Michael though TD Bank and Paypal. **UPDATE: SUNDAY JUNE 2nd 2013
I want to thank all who have come forward in the past 11 and 3/4 months from the time of the 1st fundraiser to date.. Michael birthday was in March he is now 15 years old and we had a wonderful birthday being in remission he was in 5 months of remission and just 2 weeks after his 15th birthday just a few days shy of being 6 months in remission, we got the news in April of 2013, after a monthly routine check up 2 moles were sent out for biopsy and one came back as melanoma. Michael under-went chemo and is now scheduled for surgery this coming Thursday June 6th It’s so very hard on Michael I want everyone to know that finals at school are all this week and Michael is doubling up on 2 of his testing days as school and finals are all the way though Thursday , but since Michaels surgery is Thursday the last day of school and finals, and Michael will not be there on Thursday his teachers have made it possible so Michael can take his finals and get his credit. His teachers at Jupiter High are WONDERFUL! As a parent I am doing all and everything I can for my son. Michael’s school year this year 2012-2013 has been a difficult year as he’s missed a lot of school, BUT I am proud to say he’s made up all his missed work on top of staying current. Michael's in the Criminal Justice Academy at Jupiter High as well and still in all his Honors classes. When in remission Michael made the Jupiter High School Warriors Freshman Football Team he proudly wore the number 72,. He told me he just wants to be a "regular normal teen" and "he loved being apart of the football team, being a normal kid", well as normal as one can be, and this was wonderful for him and his self-esteem . Michael is a wonderful, loving great son, with a great outlook on things and life, and all with the hand he's been dealt. He has made me so very proud to be his mom. I’m here with my plea to please if you can to help. Please if you see our need Please... one DOESENT need to give $25, $50, please just think if everyone could give $5 the goal could be reached. *Update June 2012: I'd like to THANK Craig Gold and all the Channel 12 crew for doing this story on my Michael and all the CBS12 News viewers that came out to Tropical Smoothie on Tuesday June 5th to support my son in his fight.
**I would like to correct something from my news interview on 06/05/2012: http://cbs12.com/news/features/palm-beach-county/stories/vid_281.shtml When I did my interview on Tuesday June 5th I was nervous and didn't realise I mis-spoke till after I viewed the interview the following morning on the computer. I did all so post this correction to CBS12 links to my son's story under comments. "What I meant to say was Michael's Dysplastic Nevi, were sent out for biopsy and came back as: Melanoma. What I said in interview was "they were biopsy which they were and came back as "Dysplastic Melanoma", that's were I mis-spoke. The correction is: they were "Dysplastic Nevi that sent out for biopsy and came back as "Melanoma" I just wanted to correct myself. The doctors told me the Melanoma Michael has is a direct result from the Sun."
